It was April 20th 1989 when young Scotsman Craig Wilson saw his first light of day. Son of the late DJ Tom Wilson, you could say music runs in the blood – but with big shoes to fill. After learning to play the guitar as a kid, coupled with his vast interest in music, Craig knew his future lay within the music industry.
The multi-award winning DJ’s CV already boasts an array of top class gigs and awards, from guest slots at the legendary Space Nightclub in Ibiza & the Ministry of Sound Club in London, weekly residencies and guest slots across Scotland at the country’s biggest and busiest club nights, warming up for Tiesto for his Club Life tour at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston, representing Edinburgh at the world renowned Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project, and Scotland’s biggest dance event Coloursfest among others, to being voted number 11 in Scotland’s first DJ Poll alongside the scene’s top jocks. A major factor in this is undoubtedly Craig’s diversity in musical style.
Craig was awarded both ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ and ‘Best New Resident DJ’ at the Edinburgh Rocks Awards, with his own club night ‘Selektance’ winning ‘Best New Club Night’ in 2010. October 2011 saw him voted number 11 in Scotland’s Vestax DJ Poll, and it takes only a short glance at the names placed above him to realise what an achievement this was for Craig. Household names across the board such as Calvin Harris, Slam, Mallorca Lee and Scott Brown. Since then, he has supported some of the world’s biggest DJ’s such as Axwell, Tiesto, Laidback Luke, Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Hardwell, and many more.
December 2011 brought with it ‘The Craig Wilson Podcast’, a new monthly radio show giving Craig the opportunity to showcase his style of music and all the tracks that are big in his DJ sets, not to mention a bit practice for his radio voice. The show’s popularity exploded from the word go, with literally thousands of downloads each month through iTunes and SoundCloud.
In July 2012, Craig began his first venture into FM radio, broadcasting across Edinburgh every Friday from 7-10pm on 98.8 Castle FM.
Craig’s gig calendar has been jam packed so far in 2012, often playing up to 6 or 7 nights a week and that looks set to continue for the rest of the year with dates already pencilled in right across the UK and Ibiza, testament to the hard work, passion and determination shown by this ever popular young DJ.
