#20 – George Bowie

Started DJing in the City Centre age 15 at The Mayfair (Now The Garage) in Sauchiehall Street.

Moved around the Glasgow club circuit before joining Radio Clyde at the age of 19 to work in the production office for a couple of years before presenting various night time shows on the Glasgow station.

Took over the lunch time slot in 1991 and created the GB Xperince in 1995 which ran for 5 years until 2000.

Moved to the breakfast show in 1996 and has kept the show at number 1 in the ratings ever since, winning 2 Sony Awards and 3 New York Radio Awards along the way.

In 2008 the GB Xperience returned after a Bebo campaign (yes really Bebo) to bring it back on air. It started as a 90 minute experiment and saw the market share of audience rise from 8% to over 30%, which means almost a third of people listening to the radio on a Saturday night listen to the GB Xperience, which is unheard of in today’s busy radio market place.

George Bowie has DJ’d all over the world from Miami to Ibiza, Iceland, Amsterdam and beyond. Hometown gigs included supporting Pink! on the Summer Carnival tour at Hampden Park in 2010. Playing to 10,000 at the SECC in September of this year and not one but two sell out GBX show at The Arches in 2011 with a third planned for December 31st.

GBX Anthems volume 1 in 2008 and volume 2 in 2009 were two of Scotland’s biggest selling albums during the respective Christmases and both reached the top 3 of the HMV dance and electronica charts. Volume 3 was released in November 2011. Volume 4 is approaching a sell out already.
